When I first started Layers & Graces in 2019, I had never considered branding or my ideal client, I knew I loved making cakes and I knew people enjoyed my cakes, so I jumped straight in, got myself registered and baked. I had finally plucked up the courage to start a business doing something I enjoyed.
Despite COVIDs best efforts the business took off and I was busy, supplying cakes and treats to homes all enduring week after week in lockdown. But I decided I should use lockdown as an opportunity to build on my skills and build on the business.
My love of cake making always centred back to wedding cakes I love weddings and for me I always wanted to be a wedding cake designer. So now I knew I could run a successful cake business could I really turn my attention to where I want to be?
From following various cake groups and forums I was recommended a 5-day challenge which was run by the wonderful Lauren at the Honeybee Wedding Cake Company. Having nothing to lose I decided to do the challenge. It was a game changer and opened my eyes to the side of running a successful business I had never considered.
I sat and considered my ideal client which allowed me to really see how and where I wanted to get to. I enrolled on Lauren’s Wedding Cake Business Tier course and was introduced to Jacquie from Bailey & Roo. A true star who I believe is a mind reader, she took my inspiration board and my ramblings and produced my new branding. It is amazing what an impact branding can have. I naively believed you got a logo, and the rest was down to you. But branding should be considered in everything that is to do with your business. The colours reflected in your posts, stationary and packaging. Fonts and graphics used consistently and most importantly it appeals to and attracts your ideal client.
But for me it doesn’t just stop at the beautiful website and picture-perfect social media. Each client is very important to me, and I endeavour to ensure that from consultation to the day you walk in as a married couple and see your wedding cake the process is an enjoyable experience.
And so now my website has also been updated and revamped I feel fully able to embark on this next adventure with my business – Layers & Graces Cake Design.
